Services

It is important to choose a qualified therapist who has undertaken the necessary training to understand the theory and practice of holistic therapies. By choosing a therapist who is an FHT member, you can be confident that they are professionally trained, qualified and insured. They are listed on the Complementary Healthcare Therapist Register, as some therapies are considered a form of complementary healthcare.

Reflexology.

Reflexology is based on the principle that reflex points on the soles, tops, and sides of the feet correspond to different areas of the body.

The feet can be seen as a ‘map’ of the body. By applying specialised massage techniques to specific reflex points - using the thumbs, fingers and knuckles .The aim of a reflexology treatment is to help restore balance to the body naturally, and improve the client’s general well-being.

What to expect.

Your therapist will start with a full consultation, asking various questions about your health and lifestyle, to ensure reflexology is right for you.

For the treatment itself you will remain fully clothed, simply removing your shoes and socks. You’ll be invited to relax on the couch. The therapist will gently cleanse gently apply massage balm to help provide a free-flowing treatment, and then start gently massaging and stretching your feet and ankles.

As the treatment progresses, a variety of different reflexology techniques will be used to ‘work’ the reflex points on each foot, The areas treated and pressure applied will be adapted to suit your individual needs.

Treatment generally lasts for 45 minutes to an hour, though shorter reflexology sessions may be more appropriate in some instances.

Benefits of reflexology:

Reflexology can help to relieve anxiety and tension, encourage relaxation, improve mood and aid sleep, though some people use it to help them cope with more specific health challenges.

Reflexology should not be used in place of conventional medical care. Always consult a GP or other health professional for medical attention and advice.

Massage.

Massage involves working the soft tissue of the body, to ease day-to-day stresses and muscular tension, and promote relaxation. It helps to increase delivery of blood and oxygen to the treated areas and can also be used in support of other therapies to assist in the rehabilitation of muscular injuries.

What to expect

Before treatment, your therapist will provide a full consultation, asking you various questions about your health and lifestyle, to ensure treatment is right for you. Most full body massage treatments take approximately an hour, though a ‘back, neck and shoulder’ massage may take between 30 to 40 minutes.Treatments will take place on a massage coach. If the treatment involves the therapist directly massaging your skin, a nourishing oil or cream-based product will generally be used to provide a free-flowing massage, and towels carefully placed to ensure your modesty and keep you warm and comfortable throughout the treatment.Whatever type of massage you are having, your therapist will advise you of what to expect before the treatment begins.

Benefits of massage:

Massage is used by people for a variety of reasons. Some use it to simply relax and unwind, while others have regular massage to help them manage or cope with specific physical, mental or emotional problems. Many aspiring and professional athletes have massage before and after training and competing, in order to stay in optimum condition and aid recovery. There is a growing body of evidence to suggest that massage can be effective in helping to treat certain chronic conditions, such as fibromyalgia and low back pain. In guidelines produced in 2009 by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE), manual therapies - including massage – are recommended for the early management of persistent, non-specific low back pain.

Aromatherapy.

Aromatherapy is the use of plant essential oils for therapeutic purposes. Essential oils have been used in fragrances, flavourings and medicines for thousands of years and there are around 400 different oils extracted from plants all over the world. Each oil has its own special therapeutic properties, and can be used or applied in a variety of ways, including:

Body massage, with the oils blended in a carrier oil or cream this is the healing rooms most popular application of aromatherapy.

What to expect:

Before you have an aromatherapy massage, your therapist will carry out a full consultation, asking you various questions about your medical history, general health, diet and lifestyle. This will enable  your therapist to select a small number of essential oils, appropriate to your individual needs, which will then be blended into a carrier oil or cream and applied to your skin as part of a massage treatment. The areas treated will come down to your personal preferences, but would typically be either a full body massage, or a neck, back and shoulder massage, with towels used to protect your modesty.

At the end of the treatment, your therapist may recommend that you use certain essential oils at home - for instance, in the bath or on a tissue for inhalation - to further enhance the benefits gained from your aromatherapy massage.

Benefits of aromatherapy:

Essential oils, which are highly aromatic, are readily absorbed into the body via the skin and lungs, and are believed to affect the body on all levels - physically, mentally and even emotionally/spiritually. When combined with massage, which helps to soothe away muscular tension and improve circulation, an aromatherapy treatment can be either deeply relaxing or uplifting, depending on the oils and massage techniques used by the therapist.Aromatherapy is used by people for a variety of reasons. Some use it to help them manage or cope with specific physical, mental or emotional problems, while others use it as means of relaxation, or to help maintain good health and a sense of general well-being.

Indian head massage.

Indian Head Massage has been used in Asia for over 5,000 years and works specifically on the area surrounding the head, scalp, face, neck, shoulders and upper back. Indian head massage comes from Ayurveda, an ancient method involving natural therapies, that takes into account your mind, body and spirit. An Indian head massage usually lasts for approximately 30-45 minutes, although the treatment can be shortened to 15-20 minutes and can be combined with other treatments during pamper packages. As with all treatments, a full consultation should be completed with your therapist to ensure that the treatment is right for you.

Hot Stone Massage.

During this treatment your therapist will apply hot stones to your massage. The stones will be used during the massage to aid the muscle fibres to relax and release tensions, this enables your therapist to get a deeper massage with minimum discomfort. It can be said the effects of the massage last longer then a general massage. Hot Stone Massage usually lasts for approximately 30-45 minutes, although the treatment can be shortened to 15-20 minutes and can be combined with other treatments during pamper packages. As with all treatments, a full consultation should be completed with your therapist to ensure that Indian head massage is right for you.

Ear candling.

Ear Candeling is an ancient practice that has been used for centuries in many cultures throughout the world. They are hollow tubes made from unbleached cotton or linen and hardened with beeswax. You will lie on your side on a massage couch and a protective cloth with a slit in it will be placed over the ear. The ear candle will be lit and gently inserted into the opening of the ear. Once treatment is completed, it will be repeated on the other ear. During treatment you may experience gentle heat around the ear area. You may hear popping sounds and a pleasant crackling as the ingredients are burning. This treatment is a natural alternative to ear irrigation and can be used to help clear wax build ups, this treatment is also beneficial for people suffering with sinus issues because the treatment stimulates the sinuses to self-clean therefore providing temporary relief from sinus pressure. This treatment is not recommended for anyone suffering with ear infections, as with all treatments, a full consultation should be completed with your therapist to ensure that ear candling is right for you.

Healing.

Crystal Healing.

Crystals take millions of years to form underground. The way crystals are formed (by repeating chemical structures) is believed by some to imbue them with the ability to hold energies. There are different types of crystals, depending on the type of mineral it’s made from and the conditions it grows in. These differences are thought to change the effect the crystal has energetically. Crystal healing is a holistic and natural therapy that taps into the energetic power of crystals and how they affect the body and mind. A crystal therapist will place healing crystals on or around a client to help unblock, focus and direct energy. At The Healing Room we use a variety of crystals during facials and healing sessions.

Reiki.

Reiki, meaning ‘universal life energy’, was founded in Japan by Dr Mikao Usui in the late 20th century. It works on the principle that energy, also known as ‘ki’ or ‘chi’, flows through the body via energy centres called ‘chakras’. A balanced flow of energy is said to provide a sense of wellbeing and spiritual renewal. Those who practise reiki are said to draw upon universal healing energy, which is then transferred to the client through visualisation and by gently placing their hands on or just above the body. Reiki is taught by reiki masters/teachers, who have trained in the tradition and passed it on, in person, from master to student. Students go through a process of initiation or ‘attunement’ to the reiki energy. They are then able to treat themselves and others, not only from a personal and emotional perspective, but also as an aid to individual development and spiritual growth.

What to expect

Reiki is a non-invasive therapy. Your practitioner will use energy flow from their hands to rebalance each of your energy centres. You will remain fully clothed, lying on a massage couch or sitting in a chair. The practitioner will either place their hands on or above your body, using their intuition to guide energy flow. Your whole body may be treated or just specific parts, depending on where imbalances are thought to lie. Reiki may also be used remotely, with the recipient’s consent.

Benefits of reiki

Reiki is often described as a very relaxing and peaceful treatment, which helps to restore a sense of balance and well-being within the mind and body.

Sekhem Healing.

Sekhem Energy Healing is a non-invasive ancient Egyptian energy healing modality that is channelled through the hands, in a similar manner to Reiki. This helps realign, release and shift the blocked / stagnant layers of energy around the body. It can support and help ease emotional and spiritual distress and mental anxieties as this can be the root cause of some physical discomforts. This treatment  can bring to the surface issues, one is often aware of at a deeper level. This treatment works at a cellular level and supports changes .Sekhem can be of benefit to clients in numerous ways, such as finding courage and strength to stand up to and face fears, ability to cope better with grief, gain more confidence, create self-awareness, experience positive shifts in their attitude and way of thinking and feeling. Generally, after a session client feel lighter, calmer, clearer and more energised. Sekhem can work alongside any other traditional Western or Eastern treatments. At the healing room we combine this treatment with a guided pyramid meditation and it is delivered as part of our spiritual pamper packages.

Oracle card readings:

Card readings are one of the many divination tools used to connect with our spiritual guides and angels. For centuries people have been using cards to get accurate and reliable information. Reading cards is not just about predictions nor fortune telling. These are used to inquire about what things that are in your best interest. We are all cosmic beings and unfortunately, we do not come to this earth with a how-to manual or a map to help navigate through this life. This is where intuitive card reading comes in, as it can serve as a map or manual to help guide you to exactly where it is you are trying to get to.The Healing Rooms intuitive card readings are used to communication to the heavens and the angels so that they may guide you on a path of joy and happiness, like a bridge connecting you to the angels so that they can offer their direct support and guidance. The angles are constantly sending us messages but sometimes we are not paying attention or we talk ourselves out of the message we think we are receiving.  Card readings can be booked as an individual appointment or can be deliverd with one of our spiritual pamper packages.
